A first course in organic chemistry. The nature and reactions of organic compounds are studied via a functional group organization. Atomic and molecular orbital theory; aliphatic, aromatic, alicyclic; reaction mechanisms; resonance; stereoisomerism; conformational analysis; and free radicals. (3 hr. lec./1 hr. rec.) Prerequisite: CHEM 1084 or permission of the instructor. Corequisite: CHEM 3183.
