Description:
Prereq: (C- OR BETTER BIOS 330 OR CONCURENT) OR PBIO 211 & NOT BIOS 435. A field and laboratory course to introduce students to insect taxonomy and field sampling methods. Emphasis on equipment and protocols for collecting/monitoring insects in their natural habitats, and laboratory procedures for identifying and preserving specimens. Students will become familiar with common insect families and the use of taxonomic keys to identify them. Grades based on field projects, laboratory practicals, and a final project (insect collection). May be retaken one time excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.
