Prereq: JR OR SR. Studies painting and prints, commercial advertising and fashion, photographs, and films in China, 1840 to 1940. The visual forms are located in a matrix of changing political and social conditions made more complex by the presence of non- Chinese subjects and cultures. Also introduces the methodological concept, visual culture. May be retaken one time excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.
