Introduction to world music and cultural areas of the world, with emphasis on ancient and modern art and folk music of world cultures, including traditional music of Africa, Asia, the Americas, and Europe, as they relate to contemporary culture. The course explores their structures, forms, instruments, performance practices, contexts, and roles in social, cultural, and global systems. Concert attendance is required.
