An intermediate study of the sound system in Spanish, syllabication, the phonetic alphabet and its use. Intensive oral practice aimed at improving orthography and pronunciation. An introduction is given to speech characteristics and dialectical differences in Peninsular and Spanish American phonology. Open to Heritage and native speakers, and non-native students who have completed SPAN 1002 or its equivalent. Laboratory work required. May be used to satisfy the Area F.
