3 Credits This course will examine issues and concerns related to work in the United States today from a sociological perspective. Participants will learn to recognize and analyze key social, political, economic and cultural factors shaping the experience of contemporary U.S. workers. They will also learn to recognize a range of key theoretical approaches to the study of work which mark the diversity within the social scientific disciplines. In addition, they will examine work from an historical, cross-cultural and global-economic perspective to help understand what shapes the changing experience of workers in the United States, as we move into a new century. Prerequisite: SOC* 101 or ANT* 101 or ANT* 105 or permission of instructor
