3 Credits This course emphasizes data abstracting techniques and the use of classification systems such as International classification of Diseases, 9th Edition, Clinical Modification (ICD-9-CM) and Physician's Current Procedural Terminology (CPT-4) or most recent editions. Students will gain knowledge of and learn how to prepare claims using various formats. Diagnosis Related Groups (DRGs) and various health insurance systems will be discussed. Prerequisite: HIM* 102.
