4 credits The student will study the theory and practice of the techniques for obtaining correct blood specimens. The student will develop an understanding of the basic anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular system, proper collection of blood and other specimens for laboratory examination, specimen processing and handling, quality assurance, safety procedures, medico-legal aspects of phlebotomy and effective communication skills. PREREQUISITE: HC-105 and HC- 108.
