3 credits This course presents the advanced concepts and principles needed in the pharmacy technology field. Topics include: disease states, treatment modalities, pharmaceutical side effects and drug interactions, controlled substances, physician orders, patient profiles, pharmacy data systems, job readiness, and legal requirements. This advance course in pharmacy practice includes the technician's role in drug distribution in community, home health care, nursing home, and alternative practice settings. Pharmacy Practice II focuses on oral and topical dosage forms including handling, preparation, packaging, labeling, and distribution. The course also addresses long-term care pharmacy, home health care, home infusion pharmacy, managed care pharmacy, mail-order pharmacy, nuclear pharmacy, hospice pharmacy, and federal pharmacy, along with the roles of the pharmacy technician in these various settings.
