This course introduces students to elementary communication skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing Japanese. Emphasis is on fundamentals of grammar and pronunciation, practical vocabulary and useful phrases and idioms. The honorific, polite, and humble forms of vocabulary and expressions are introduced and analyzed. This course also exposes students to social, cultural, political and historical aspects of Japan.
