designed to familiarize students with the wealth of children's literature available for the young child. Students will explore the history of children's literature and the various genre, categories and work with children in the larger family and societal context to develop optimal learning environments. Students will use literature themes and environmental print to promote children's ability to develop natural and functional use of language. emphasis will be placed on activities that involve listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students spend a minimum of two hours administering The early Literacy Profile assessment tool with age-appropriate children. This assessment takes place at theMaria College Lab School with the guidance of the college instructor and the director of the the Maria College Campus School. The two hours indicated reflects a minimum, as students have many opportunities to interact with the children in the Maria College Campus School, sharing literature and literacy activities.
