A study of the process by which children acquire language and the many ways they communicate with the world around them. Students will study the various language acquisition theories guiding current educational practices for language learning. Students will also investigate the reggio emilia approach that emphasizes the expressive languages of children and the belief that children learn more deeply when they represent the same concept using different media. The student will spend at least two hours observing and working with young children under supervision of college instructor.
