This course explores ways children develop language and emerging literacy skills as well as methods of fostering literacy development in young children through all areas of the curriculum. Special emphasis is given to children who develop two or more languages in the early years and methods of enhancing the home language while building English competency. It includes the study of children's literature, standards for evaluating books and computer software, techniques of story telling and puppetry.
