The student is introduced to the concepts of gerontological nursing. The focus is on meeting the needs of the elderly. Assessment, maintenance, and restoration of health for those over the age of 65 are presented. The nursing process is used as the framework for the development of thinking skills. Content will reflect on the influence of the legal, ethical, cultural, and economic issues related to the health care needs of the elderly. This course may be used to fulfill the elective requirement for nursing. Students must receive a ā€œCā€ or better in this course as a prerequisite for subsequent courses.
