HUM 252 presents a survey of Islamic civilization from the birth of Mohammad to the destruction of the Ottoman Empire in the 20th century. Emphasis is placed on developing an understanding of the nature and diversity of the Islamic religion, an appreciation of the great cultural achievements of medieval Islam, and an awareness of the complexities of the problems of the contemporary Middle East. HUM 252 meets elective requirements in the Associate of Arts degree program and distributive transfer requirements in history, social sciences and non-Western studies.
