Description:
This studio course concentrates on the effect of structural systems including long span on the design of commercial structures. Emphasis will be placed on emerging technology and the ability of students to address tectonic and structural issues in the design process. Project solutions will be developed through schematic design and design development phases after extensive individual research on the building type selected by the instructor. Sizing and selection of all building components is expected based on prerequisite courses. Students are responsible for adherence to project schedules and final project presentations will be in two-dimensional drawings and three-dimensional computer and traditional models.
