Institution:
Ulster County Community College
Subject:
Description:
3 Credits Visual Arts, MUS, & THE Theater Open to students of all levels of experience, this class is designed to teach student-actors the art of movement as an intrinsic element of theater performance. The course untilizes techniques for exercise, delineates audition requirements, explores various performance styles, and culminates in choreographic projects. Each class will begin with a technical warm-up, combining classical jazz styles and ballet technique. The course will ultimately focus on jazz-dance based movement, with ballet basics and an introduction to tap. The course will integrate an extensive dance warm-up with movement vocabulary and work on various combinations inspired by classic Broadway musicals from the 1920s through the 1980s. The goal of this course is for students to become more in tune with their bodies and how they express movement. The body is the actor's instrument of expression. Through a disciplined warm-up and the practice of technique, our bodies respond and expand their capacity for freedom of range and expressive communication. Prerequisite: Approval by the instructor or advisement by the program coordinator.
