3 Credits Visual Arts, MUS, & THE Theater This course will be an intensive practical exploration of the production of vocal sound and the articulation of that sound into speech, beginning with breathing techniques and including alignment, relaxation, and vocal exercises, all of which facilitate finding and strengthening your own public voice. These exercises are geared toward the reduction of tension and the restrictive habits which intefere with effective communication. The voice should serve the needs of the listener as well as the writer, and to that end this course will look at the marriage of voice and text through storytelling, contemporary drama, oral interpretation of the poetry of Shakespeare and the prose of American writers, participation in mock job interviews, and actively engaging in classroom discussion and conversation. Prerequisite: Advisement by the instructor.
