NCC 281 - Making Informed Food Choices

Institution:
Ulster County Community College
Subject:
Description:
0 Credits Undeclared division Non Credit Courses Every year it seems harder to make informed food choices. From one supermarket shopping trip to the next, there appears to be an ever-expanding range of products with ever more deceptive marketing. And when we eat out, how do we know which menu items fit into our desire for a healthy meal? This class will meet twice; the first class meets at a local supermarket to tour the store, learning how to navigate the aisles, quickly read nutrition labels, and spot packaging with misleading claims. The second class will meet for dinner at a local restaurant. You will review the menu items, discuss how to choose lighter, healthier fare, and order dinner.
