4 Credits Nursing & Public Safety Intermediate Studies This course is a refresher and update for the NYS Basic EMT Program. Completion of this course allows the student to sit for the NYS EMS Basic EMT Recertification exams. The course provides the student with a refresher of previous training in the fundamentals of patient care in emergency circumstances, plus provides new knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to be competent, productive, and valuable members ofthe Emergency Medical Services team. Course content includes general guidelines for responding to medical and traumatic emergencies, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and airway problems, as well as managing wounds and shock. Adult and Pediatric Patient assessment, history taking and vital signs will also be covered. Prerequisites: 18 years of age for NYS professional certification and past or current certification as Basic EMT.
