3 Credits Social Sciences,EDU, & HUS Human Services A contrast in normal physical and mental development in young children, adolescents, adults, and the aged with persons who are developmentally disabled, physically disabled, mentally retarded, or mentally impaired is presented in this course. Topics include social welfare policy; societal attitudes; personal attitudes; parental reactions; early intervention programs; treatment approaches in social work; and human services for diagnosis, education, habilitation, and rehabilitation of the person with special needs. Classroom practice sessions are used to develop and improve direct care skills. Prerequisite or corequisite: HUS 103.
