0 Credits Undeclared division Development Cntr for Business Green Home Building and Renovation will give a practical overview of the many ways we can all design, build, and/or renovate a home to make it more green and sustainable. Topics covered include: alternative energy systems like geothermal and solar, passive solar design, green roofs, sustainable materials such as bamboo, use of non toxic paints and other non toxic building materials, new insulation techniques such as ICF and SIP, energy efficient appliances and water heaters and "green" mortgages. Also covered are New York State Energy Smart and Federal programs that subsidize energy efficiency with rebates and tax breaks, state certified home energy audits and state backed low cost loans for home improvements that create energy efficiency. There will be guest speakers and the class will highlight actual green building and renovation projects in the Hudson River Valley. The second session will be a visit to Real Green Homes submitted to the New York House Magazine's "Best in Green Building Competition". This session will include a tour to two homes in the area where you will be able to meet the homeowner and ask questions to see first hand how actual green homes are built and function.
