The objective of this course is to trace the history and development of the media, to explain their evolution and significance from the printing press to the advent of the Internet, and to examine how the media can act both as a mirror and a model of culture. The course will also explore the various issues used by modern media to understand themselves and their relationship to society and to define job opportunities, roles, and responsibilities for those interested in pursuing a career in the print or electronic media. Prerequisite or corequisite: ENG 101. Recommended prerequisite: COM 103.
