New York State law mandates many licensed professionals to complete a two-hour training course regarding the identification and reporting of child abuse and maltreatment. This requirement applies to: Chiropractors, Dental Hygienists, Dentists, Optometrists, Physicians, Psychologists, and Registered Nurses. The Law also includes this training among the requirements for certification or licensure of school administrators/supervisors, school service personnel, and classroom school teachers, Licensed Clinical Social Workers and Licensed Master Social Workers. New requirements in 2005 now include: Mental Health Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists, Creative Arts Therapists, and Psychoanalysts. All persons applying for a provisional or permanent certificate or license for administrative or supervisory service, school service, or classroom teaching service must have completed the two hours of coursework or training. You will learn: * how to define and identify physical and behavioral indications of suspected child abuse and maltreatment. * characteristics of abusive and neglectful parents/caretakers. * when to report suspected abuse/maltreatment, the statutory reporting requirements involved, the protections afforded reporters and the liability for failure to report. You must attend the full two hours of this workshop to fulfill NYS requirements for your certificate of completion. Tompkins Cortland Community College is approved by the Office of the Professionals New York State Education Department.
