This course fulfills the training requirements of Chapter 786 of the Laws of New York, 1992, for physicians, physician assistants, dentists, dental hygienists, LPNs, optometrists, podiatrists, and RNs for infection control and barrier precautions prior to issuance of their license or renewal of registration. Topics include: * professional responsibility for infection control * modes and mechanisms of disease transmission and strategies for infection control * selection and use of barriers and personal protective equipment * prevention and control of communicable diseases in health care workers * creation and maintenance of a safe patient care environment * infection control for drug resistant organisms * review of Hepatitis C * new guidelines for Tuberculosis prevention * PEP protocol for needlestick injuries Note: Re-certification is required every four years.
