3 credits "G" Prerequisite: Meets Honors College entrance criteria or approval of the program director. This course is designed to provide an understanding of the principles and procedures that promote effective communication. The course will be concerned with the functions that speech communication serves as well as the examination of the various contexts in which communication occurs and the constraining factors that affect communication. Emphasis will be placed on the exploration of the theory and practice in presenting public speeches; determination of communication purpose, situational materials, language usage and message orientation to designated listeners. This course partially satisfies the writing requirements as outlined in the General Education Requirements. Credit is not given for SPC 1600 and SPC 1600H. 47 contact hours.
