4 credits Prerequisite: Admission to the Orthotics and Prosthetics BAS program. This course is designed so that the student will understand that the foot and ankle pathology and treatment for problems including, diabetes, neuropathy, ischemia, and infection. Each of these factors acting alone or in concert predispose the foot to ulceration when subjected to mechanical, thermal or chemical trauma. Correlation of clinical findings allow the student to understand the importance of the correct choice of materials, orthoses and prostheses for proper treatment regimens The goal of the course is to focus on the assessment, differential diagnosis and treatment strategies. Emphasis will be placed on the practical management of the patient. 122 contact hours.
