This course introduces the student to basic concepts and regulations within the sports and entertainment industry with a focus on contract, constitutional, and intellectual property law. Topics covered in the area of sports law include the history of sports agents, torts and crimes in sports, Title IX and women's issues, contract law regarding athletes, financial and compensation considerations, American with Disabilities Act in sports, athlete/celebrity status, and intellectual property issues. Topics covered in the area of entertainment law include the legal structure of film, television, music, live stage, and publishing industries, contract law regarding entertainers, credits and compensation, constitutional considerations, and intellectual property law issues. 47 contact hours.
