3 credits Prerequisite: Admission to the Management and Organizational Leadership BAS program or permission of the Dean. This course will provide the student with an introduction to the principles of philanthropy and the history of the creation of not-for-profit organizations. Attention will be given to strategic planning as an essential executive management tool for the growth and survival of not-for-profit organizations. This includes the understanding of the purpose of a strong mission and vision statement. Also, students will be introduced to the role of a board of trustees and the importance of volunteer management. Attention will also be given to the executive manager's role in evaluating, setting, and implementing financial goals for the organization's sustainability. This course includes a brief introduction to the most common types of fund development plans. 47 contact hours
