3 credits This course is an introduction to writing instruction and the best methods to use with students in grades three through six. This course will examine the development of writing instruction over the past thirty years and provide knowledge about those who have been most influential in its evolution. This course will examine, among many other things, the writing process, the use of a daily writing workshop for instructional purposes, materials to use for instructing and assessing writing, the place of literature in the writing classroom and ways to use writing to enhance thinking throughout all curriculum areas. 47 contact hours.
