This course is a study of the laboratory identification of pathogenic microorganisms. Topics include laboratory safety, specimen collection; classification and identification of medically significant bacteria, fungi, parasites, and viruses; antimicrobial susceptibility testing; and quality assurance. 62 contact hours or equivalent.
