2 credits Prerequisite: Admission to the Health Information Management A.S. Degree or the Medical Coder CT program and (CTS 1101 with a grade of "C" or higher or Computer/Information Literacy Competency requirement) and HIM 1000 with a grade of "C" or higher. This course is an introduction to theory and practical methodology utilized in a health information (medical record) department. Computer and information systems in health care are discussed with emphasis on systems encountered by health information managers. Included is a review of new technologies in relation to the evolving paperless electronic medical record. 32 contact hours.
