3 credits Prerequisite: Admission to the Elementary Education BS program or permission of the Dean. This course is an introduction to major concepts, assumptions, debates, processes of inquiry, and ways of knowing within the school curriculum. Preservice teachers create coherent, meaningful learning experiences using the major philosophical foundations of education to develop learners' competence in subject matter knowledge. Preservice teachers evaluate the suitability of the content against learner intellectual, social, emotional, physical characteristics. This course is writing intensive. 47 contact hours.
