3 credits This course is designed to teach students how to use basic Linux/Unix Operating Environment commands. The course is for new users of the Linux/Unix Operating Environment. Students learn file system navigation, file permissions, the vi text editor, command shells and basic network use. Major topics covered include accessing the environment, accessing files and directories, directory and file commands, searching for files and text, file security, text editing, archiving user data, remote connections, system processes, the Korn shell, sed and awk filtering commands, and reading shell scripts. 47 contact hours.
