3 credits Prerequisite: Admission to the PSA-BAS program. This course will provide the student with an understanding of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology which has become an important component in crime analysis, trend formation, informing policies and administrative practices in law enforcement. This course is designed to introduce students to the key concepts and uses of GIS and Geographic Positioning Systems (GPS) in operational and managerial environments. Students will become familiar with the benefits of utilizing these technological tools in criminal justice research and crime analysis, with a particular focus on gang enforcement. In addition, students will review various case studies and their use in criminal justice research and gang enforcement operations and management. 47 contact hours.
