3 credits Prerequisite: permission of the Dean. This course provides students with a working understanding of the technology available for communication; how that technology can be used by gangs and others inclined to engage in criminal activity; and how that technology can be used by police, courts, and corrections officers to identify criminal activity through intelligence collection, analysis, and dissemination. This course explores the historical use of technology, provides a sampling of technology available in the present, and looks at possibilities for improvements in the future. Students will learn to identify uses for technology, demonstrate a familiarity with available technology, and engage in collaboratively designing and using a technological framework to gather, analyze, and share simulated intelligence. 47 contact hours.
