3 credits Prerequisite: Completion of CET 2620 or CCNA certification with permission of program director. This course is designed to provide students with advanced classroom experience in Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN) switching. Instruction includes, but is not limited to, Virtual Local Area Network configuration (VLAN), VLAN Trunking Protocols (VTP), VLAN Pruning, Spanning Tree Protocol (STP), routing between VLANs, multi-layer switch operations, Hot Standby Routing Protocol (HSRP), multicasting, restricting network access with switching security techniques, installing Access Control Lists (ACLs) on switches, wireless technology applications with switches, configuring Quality of Service (QoS) on switches, IP Multicasting, and Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) integration. Students will install, configure, and operate complex-routed LAN and WAN switching networks. 47 contact hours.
