3 credits This course is a general survey of the social, political and cultural factors which have generated art and architecture from the Age of Enlightenment to the present. The elements of architecture, described by Vitruvious as Function, Strength and Aesthetics, will be analyzed in significant buildings from the Age of Enlightenment to the current works by contemporary architects. Instruction also includes drawings and sketches of major buildings. An annotated sketchbook will be required. 47 contact hours.
