P This course introduces education majors to the field and is designed as a survey course to provide a broad overview of information about education, the teaching profession, and schools in American society. This course has three components: lecture, discussion, and field experience. It is designed to offer the student an opportunity to explore the education profession from the view of contemporary teachers and through an overview of the historical, philosophical, sociological and cultural bases of the American educational system. The course includes a minimum of 30 hours of field experience over ten weeks in a public school setting. This course is required for all pre-education majors. Prerequisite: ENC1101 with grade of C or better
