P ARH2500 introduces students to the cultural and historical heritage of selected non-western societies from the ancient world to the present day. The student will be introduced to examples of painting, sculpture, architecture, and decorative arts using slides, videotapes and other materials reproducing art works from a variety of cultures including those of Africa, Asia, Oceania, and the Americas. Rather than following a chronological outline, the course will be organized on the basis of different types of cultural models including nomadic bands, village cultures, ranked societies and urban states
