This course teaches both spoken and written modern standard Mandarin Chinese. Discussions of cultural topics will enable students to develop written and spoken skills in Mandarin. Materials will follow a standard textbook using simplified character and pinyin, but the curriculum, using learner-centered language teams and a wide variety of resources, will also challenge students who wish to improve their knowledge of the traditional writing system. 3 credits
