PC Systems Troubleshooting Pre: CPS130 and IEL250 Co: IEL214 Presents an in-depth coverage of the tools and techniques necessary to perform maintenance for a personal computer (ix86 architecture). The student will replace or repair components, identify faults to the level of circuit boards, upgrade systems to meet performance characteristics for the CPU, memory requirements, input/output, power supplies, monitor adjustments and replacements, video cards, modems, and network cards. Students will develop a methodology for troubleshooting PC problems, use diagnostic software to isolate problems and assess performance, use a voltmeter to measure voltages for a power supply, test a cable for continuity, and assess heat and dust factors and other environmental problems affecting a PC. (2 hours of lecture and 4 hours of lab per week)
