College Reading 1 Pre: ESL019 or ESL084 & 086 with C or C+, or placement exam Co: COM010 and COM011 Develops basic reading skills using a broad cross section of articles written in response to current issues or events. Students improve their ability to comprehend factual material, build confidence in their ability to learn independently, and gain new perspectives and broaden horizons. Students employ effective reading strategies to improve concentration, identify and resolve comprehension problems, analyze and organize author's ideas, evaluate them critically, and record them for future use. By meeting the academic and behavioral challenges of this course, students will develop the skills, habits, and attitudes necessary for success in college. Students identified through the College Assessment Program should enroll in this course in their first semester. This course satisfies no elective requirement.
