The course emphasizes textual analysis and the examination of the relationship of representative works to historical, social, and intellectual developments. Included are works by such authors as Bradford, Rowlandson, Jefferson, Franklin, Emerson, Thoreau, Hawthorne, Melville, and Dickinson. Prerequisite: ENG102 or permission of instructor/division dean.
