This course explores the nature of mental retardation (MR) and developmental disabilities (DD) in terms of analyzing the various definitions of mental retardation and developmental disabilities. The historical treatment of individuals with these conditions will be explored, along with an examination of current and past classification schemes. Studies of the major syndromes, genetics, and social causes of mental retardation and developmental disabilities will be explored. Current treatment options will be covered in depth.
