Description:
This prepares the student to provide advanced medical care to ill or injured individuals. The topics include neurology, gastroenterology, toxicology, geriatrics, patients with special challenges, incident command, rescue operations, ambulance operations, crime scene awareness, hazardous materials incidents, dysrhythmia review, AV blocks, acute coronary syndromes, acute ischemic stroke, cardiac arrest management, emergency pharmacology for pediatric patients, interosseous infusion, pediatric intubation, and pediatric resuscitation. This course, along with EMS 150, 170, 250, and 275 prepares and qualifies the student to sit for the New York State and National Registry Paramedic certification examination, providing all other certification requirements are met. Prerequisites: EMS 250 or equivalent and NYS EMT-Basic Certification or equivalent. Pre- or Corequisite: Current infection control, hazardous materials and incident command system training, conforming to the requirements of the Paramedic Program Handbook. 8.5 cr. 6 Lec., 1 lab. 6.5 Clinical.
