Description:
This course is for individuals who might be present during medical emergencies. Topics will include the roles of the technician and ambulance; bacteriology, resuscitation, respiratory emergencies, cardiovascular emergencies, wounds, sprains, strains, dislocations, fractures, head injuries, mental disturbances, childbirth, legalities, automobile extrications, and hospital emergency room coordination. Lectures, panel discussions, audio visual aids, demonstrations and practical work will be on the agenda. Successful completion, and compliance with New York State Department of Health Guidelines will lead to eligibility to sit for the New York State written and practical EMT-Basic certification examinations. 6 cr. 5 Lec. 2.5 Lab. (Per Departmental Standards Version of EMS 121, approved by Academic Affairs on 3/18/04).
