Examines how Hollywood films work technically, artistically, and culturally to reinforce and challenge American's national self-image. Defines elements of film language, such as shot, cinematography, film noir, mise en scene, and montage. Studies popular genres such as Westerns, comedy, and combat film. Students learn to become active and critical viewers. Prerequisite: completion of Genesee Community College's reading requirement.
