An introduction and orientation to the graphic communications industry to include the history of printing, publishing, advertising and allied industries. The course emphasis is directed toward the lithographic printing process with an overview of screen printing, flexography and gravure reproduction. Production methods, substrates and product knowledge is emphasized. Students learn basic principles and applications of the offset printing process to include hands-on-training in: copy preparation, desktop publishing software, Macintosh and PC computers and reproduction photography. Other areas include film assembly, proofing, and plate making. The Corel Painter software applications are taught to introduce desktop publishing concepts, and the Macintosh operating system.
