Prerequisite: HT 102 and MA 106, with a C or better. Supervised Professional Practice I is a course designed to familiarize the student with professional applications of health information technology theories and practices in acute and ambulatory facilities. In this 120-hour internship, students will have the opportunity to demonstrate and apply knowledge and skill learned in class in a supervised field work environment through functions such as management of medical record content; admission procedures; discharge analysis and abstracting; record control and file maintenance; and use of performance improvement tools and health care statistics compilation. Internships must be secured and processed two weeks in advance of each term. Students should be near the end of their academic program to take these courses.
